Ghana has been ranked first in the 2025 Global Cocoa Quality Index by the World Cocoa Foundation, reaffirming the country’s global leadership in cocoa quality, scientific testing standards, and regulatory excellence.

The World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) has officially ranked Ghana’s cocoa as the world’s top-quality cocoa, placing it first in the 2025 Global Cocoa Quality Index.

In its announcement, the Foundation stated, “Ghana has demonstrated exceptional leadership in cocoa quality management, supported by rigorous scientific testing, transparent regulatory systems, and continuous improvement in food safety standards.” The report further noted that “Ghana’s analytical precision and compliance framework exceed current international benchmarks, setting a new global standard for cocoa-producing nations.”

The Global Quality Index also ranked Ecuador second, citing its advancements in post-harvest fermentation and improved flavor profiling systems. Côte d’Ivoire secured third place, recognized for significant progress in pesticide monitoring mechanisms and traceability reforms.

According to the Foundation, “While several producing countries have made commendable progress in sustainability and quality assurance, Ghana remains the benchmark for regulatory rigor, laboratory excellence, and consistency in premium-grade cocoa exports.”

Reacting to the recognition, Dr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), described the ranking as a historic milestone for the country’s cocoa industry.

“This remarkable achievement is the result of the tireless dedication and professionalism of our quality assurance and analytical teams,” he said. “Their commitment to adopting stricter testing standards, developing innovative analytical methods, and enforcing rigorous monitoring protocols has positioned Ghana’s cocoa as the global benchmark for purity and quality. It is a proud moment for Ghana, our farmers, and the entire cocoa value chain.”

He further added, “We will continue to invest in modern laboratory infrastructure, strengthen monitoring systems, and collaborate with international partners to ensure Ghana maintains its leadership in global cocoa quality.”

The recognition reinforces Ghana’s longstanding reputation as a producer of premium cocoa and strengthens its position within the competitive international cocoa market.
